PET Imaging of Amyloid Plaque in Alzheimer's Disease: Insights into Pathogenesis of Disease

Thursday, November 18 2010 11:30am - 1:30pm Eastern Time Presented by:

Brain amyloid plaques are a defining pathological lesion of Alzheimer's disease. However, until recently amyloid patholoy could not be measured in vivo, thus complicating efforts to elucidate the role of amyloid in pathogenesis of disease. Thus we have sough to develop a molecular imaging agent for PET imaging of amyloid plaques. Several clinical trials with such a compound, Florbetapir F18, have now been completed, and implications for our understanding of Alzheimer's pathogenesis will be discussed.
